New Old Stock Box of James Swan Ship Auger Drill Bits, 15/16"
This box of antique James Swan ship auger drill bits is a bit worn but still has legible lables and the lid fits the container. Still has three 15/16" bits with most of their original wrapping paper marked with James Swan's famous swan logo and Seymour, Connecticut. Label reads: "1-2 Doz. No. 30 7 1/2-8 SWAN'S SHIP AUGER BITS (FINEST HAMMERED STEEL) WITH SCREW Manufactured by THE JAMES SWAN CO. SEYMOUR, CONN., U.S.A." Auger Bits are about 9 inches long.
This box of James Swan ship auger bits came from a hardware store that closed its doors in the middle of the last century. Four of the five bits in this box are still in their original wrapping paper. Each bit is marked with a 14 on the base (for 14/16") and the pictoral swan logo surrounded by "THE JAMES SWAN CO. SEYMOUR, CONN. U.S.A." in an oval. Bits are approximately 9 3/4" long, screwtip pattern.
Antique Sheffield Slater Gentleman's Wooden Bit Brace
This antique wooden bit brace appears to be fitted for a 3/8" bit and is constructed of wood. Marked faintly, "Slater sheffield" on the brass fitting. Approximately 14" long overall.

This antique reciprocating "Archimedes" automatic twist drill is spring loaded and twists when pushed. Quite a lot of tension left. Butt cap appears to be hand-worked brass, hardwood handle. Aperature in chuck is approximately 1/16" when closed, opens and shuts with a fairly standard threaded tip. 13" long overall.
Box of 10 Jrwin Schlangenbohrer German Auger Drill Bits
These boxes of drill bits were acquired in a buyout of a Boston tool company that closed their doors in the 1950's (along with the James Swan inventory). They are Irwin (aka "Solid Centre" or "Solid Center") pattern auger bits. Boxes are marked "Jrwin - Schlangenbohrer 10 Stock. M 328 8/16"." 1/2" diameter, 7 3/4" long, still wrapped in the original wrapping paper. Some may be tarnished or rusted due to long-term storage, I only unwrapped a box to get photographs. 10 drills in each box, price is per box.

This shipwright's auger drill bit is the single twist "American Ship Auger," L'Hommedieu' pattern, with the screw tip lead. Marked "THE JAMES SWAN CO EXTRA USA," indicating the premium product line. A hefty bit, weighing in at just over 10 ounces. 1 1/4" diameter, 9" long overall.
